The section of the so-called French cemetery in Szczecinek contains the remains of 119 Napoleonic soldiers who died of exhaustion during the Great Army's retreat from Moscow between December 1812 and February 1813. They are commemorated with a monument – a bust of a young Napoleonic soldier wearing a distinctive dumpling-shaped hat on his head, chiselled by Z. Wujek, erected in September 1997.
